Operational Background
Cliff is a retired Royal Air Force wing commander who has over 14 years of experience in space operations and has been mission-qualified in ten operational space roles. He has served as the 92 Squadron Space and Non-Kinetic Tactics and Training Officer, headed the Air and Space Warfare School’s Qualified Space Instructor’s Course, and was the first UK national to qualify and operate as the Deputy Director Space Forces, US European and Africa Command. During his time as HQ UK Space Command’s Assistant Chief of Staff, he advanced the Ministry of Defence’s Strategic Effects Management Process to include space domain operations. He has advised the Secretary of State’s Office of Net Assessment and Challenge Space Strategy Group.
Educational and Professional Expertise
Cliff is a Distinguished Graduate of the United States Space Force Shriever Space Scholar Program at the Air University, USA where he graduated with Highest Academic Distinction; and has been the Chief of the Air Staff Portal Research Fellow at King’s College, London, where he developed a new spacepower theory – Anthrocosmology. He holds Master’s degrees in Leadership and Management, Aerosystems, and Military Operational Art and Science; and is a Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.
Academic and Research Experience
Cliff is an award-winning published scholar, a lecturer in International Relations and International Security at the University of Staffordshire, and a teacher of Geography at Jerudong International School, Brunei. He guest lectures internationally on spacepower, space warfare, and space strategy.
